Léo Delibes

Léo Delibes oder Clément Philibert Léo Delibes (
- 21. Februar 1836 bei Saint-Germain-du-Val (Sarthe); † 16. Januar 1891 in Paris) war ein französischer Komponist.

Leben

Delibes studierte seit 1848 am Pariser Konservatorium und wurde 1865 Chordirektor an der Pariser Oper. 1870 wurde sein Ballett Coppélia (nach E. T. A. Hoffmanns Erzählung Der Sandmann) mit triumphalem Erfolg an der Pariser Oper uraufgeführt. 1880 wurde er Professor für Kompositionslehre am Pariser Konservatorium. Am 14. April 1883 wurde an der Pariser Opéra-Comique seine Oper Lakmé uraufgeführt, die später weltweit die Spielpläne der Opernhäuser eroberte. 1884 wurde er zum Mitglied der Académie des beaux-arts gewählt. Nach seinem Tod 1891 wurde er auf dem Pariser Friedhof Montmartre beigesetzt.

Delibes schrieb seit 1855 zahlreiche Opern, Operetten und Ballett-Musiken. Zu seinen besten und erfolgreichsten Werken gehören:

- Le roi l'a dit (Oper, 1873)
